There are several important things for you to do as you prepare for your liposuction procedure. At your initial consultation, Dr. Bottger will go over this in great detail. But you may want to print out this list and keep it on hand to ensure you don’t forget anything important. Make sure you take care of the following items at least 2 weeks prior to your liposuction procedure:
- Eat a healthy diet rich in protein, fruits and vegetables, carbohydrates, and healthy fats
- Make sure you have cleared all personal and professional obligations from your schedule prior to surgery so that you can focus on your recovery after liposuction
- Ask family members or close friends to be available to assist you around the house during the first few days of your recovery
- Stop taking aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen, cold and sinus medications, and any other products which may impact your blood’s clotting ability
- Stop taking birth control medication and use a different form of contraception
- Quit smoking, and do not resume until you have completely healed – smoking reduces blood flow to the skin and may negatively impact your body’s healing ability and final results
- Arrange for someone to drive you to and from the hospital on the day of your procedure
- Make sure you have everything you will need to facilitate recovery prior to undergoing surgery – this includes any medications, bandages, and compression garments
- Stock up on entertainment supplies such as books, games, and movies – you will have plenty of downtime while you recover
