If you are considering breast augmentation, one of the most important questions you might ask is “Am I a candidate?” here is some basic information about the ideal candidates for breast augmentation using breast implants. First, the best candidates have cosmetic goals that can be achieved using breast implants. This can be to increase the size of breasts or restore lost volume in the breasts. Breast implants can also be used to alter the shape of breasts, adding fullness in the upper part of the breasts, or to correct asymmetry. In general, breast implants will not correct breast sagging. Next, you have to be at least 18 to receive saline breast implants, and at least 22 to receive silicone breast implants. Finally, you need to determine whether you are in good enough health for breast implants. This means you should be in good general health, without malignant or pre-malignant breast tumors, or untreated infections or other illnesses. Ideally, breast augmentation candidates should be non-smokers, and if you are a smoker you will be asked to quit for at least four weeks before and after surgery. The ideal breast augmentation candidates should also have realistic expectations for the procedures (see our Before & After gallery to learn what results you might be able to achieve), and should be in good psychological health. Want to learn whether you’re a candidate? The only way to know for sure is to schedule a consultation with David A. Bottger, MD in Philadelphia.
