One of the most important attributes for a plastic surgeon, and one that comes only through experience, is understanding how all of a patient’s facial features interact to form a larger, aesthetically pleasing whole. This is particularly important when one of our Philadelphia-area patients is considering a rhinoplasty.
Why? For one thing, the nose is one of the most prominent features on your face. As a result, any changes to your nose will affect the way all of your facial features are balanced.
But there are more substantive considerations as well. Recent studies have found that, in some cases, a rhinoplasty procedure can actually increase upper lip projection – that is, it can pull the upper lip up and forward. This is particularly common when one of the goals of the rhinoplasty is to increase the distance between the tip of the nose and the plane of the face.
For some patients, this is actually desirable. For others, it’s not. Every patient is unique. That’s why we have a long, involved conversation with all of our patients before moving forward with any procedure. It’s important that we understand your aesthetic goals, and it’s equally important that you understand the ways in which your nose reshaping goals will impact the balance and harmony of your other facial features.
Dr. Bottger will work with you to develop a customized rhinoplasty plan that will deliver the beautiful, natural looking results you desire while maintaining balance with the rest of your features.
